Bata Shoe Museum, Toronto, ON, Canada | May, 2015
As emerging artists with Arts for Children and Youth, Jasmine Wemigwans and I were invited into the Beauty, Identity, Pride: Native North American Footwear exhibition at the Bata Shoe Museum to create images inspired by the footwear and history presented. As an illustrator with a love of patterns, I was blown away by the designs on the shoes in this exhibit. I studied the patterns that were skillfully beaded and sewn onto the shoes and created a piece that commemorated my favourite patterns (symbolic of me and my work) meeting the patterns of the exhibit.
