Toronto Islands Ferry/Ferry Docks

Ferry Docks, Toronto, ON, Canada | July, 2016

This was a special residency for me because it was my first time illustrating aboard a boat! I was asked to create a piece inspired by the water/ferry/Toronto and to be physically immersed in my inspiration was a treat! Though I didn’t take pictures of how full and busy the ferry gets, it was a pleasure to speak with fellow Torontonians about art and their experiences on the Islands.

I chose to create a larger pattern for this piece and play with the concept of graphic gradation. The illustration, titled, ‘Southbound to the Toronto Islands,’ represents the motion of travelling from the condensed city of Toronto to the open-aired and relaxed Toronto Islands (located directly south of the downtown city core). Many, many thanks to VIBE Arts for organizing this event and to the crews at the Ferry Docks for their super friendly attitudes, kindness and hospitality.
